Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge: Souvenirs that won’t break the bank.

With Presidents Day, Spring Break, and eventually summer break around the corner, lots of families are planning a trip to Disney World. Many of you will check out Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios. As an adult who grew up with Star Wars, it was a blast to experience it with my kids who are fans of it today.

I wanted to bring home a couple souvenirs of course, which brings me to the subject of this post. There is no such thing as a reasonably priced souvenir anywhere in Disney World, but when it comes to Galaxy’s Edge, that greedy little mouse has really stepped up his game. $99 to build a droid, $200 to build a light saber, and $1700 for a Stormtrooper costume… So what do you do if you don’t want to take out a second mortgage? Here’s the two items I brought home. One of them is actually free!

Thermal Detonators

Coca Cola products are served all over Disney Parks, and for Galaxy’s Edge they created bottles that look like thermal detonators.

Originally the TSA declared that these could not be checked in your luggage onto an airplane because they look like an explosive device. But after days of ridicule on tv and social media, they wisely reversed their stance. You may pack them in your checked luggage, either full or empty.

They are six bucks each. Yes, that’s $6 for 13.5 ounces of Diet Coke. But it’s fun and unique, and let’s face it: There aren’t many things anywhere in Disney for less than $6.

Galaxy’s Edge Traveler’s Guide

It’s a just map of Galaxy’s Edge. But it’s not anything like the flimsy glossy maps they hand out in other places around Disney World. It’s made of heavy card stock, and themed like everything in the land. I got mine back in October, so it actually shows Rise of the Resistance as “opening soon.” The best part is that it’s FREE! As you first walk into Galaxy’s Edge, you may see a cast member handing them out. If not, ask a cast member and they can find one for you.

But what you are really wondering is whether it was worth it to get up at 4:30AM to go to an amusement park. If you are a fan of the Star Wars movies, the answer is an emphatic YES!!!
