Our Quarantine Disney Trip

If you know us personally, or if you have seen some of my other posts, you know we are a big Disney family. In order to keep up the Disney Magic while the parks are closed, Disney started releasing secret recipes from their theme parks on the Disney World app. Most notably, the famous Dole Whip they serve poolside at the Polynesian Resort. So we decided to have an in-home Disney World vacation at our favorite resort, the Polynesian.

It was a nice break from the monotony of being stuck at home all the time. Whether you are a regular at the parks, or just looking forward to a chance to visit for the first time, you should give this a try!

The O’hana restaurant menu at the Polynesian is available online, and the best part of this night from a parent’s perspective is you won’t have to bend over and take the $55 per person price tag. More like $55 total. Most of the ingredients and sauces we needed were in the international foods aisle at the grocery store. I did have to make a couple substitutions because of COVID19 hoarding….

Per the menu, we started out with pork dumplings. These were from a bag in the freezer section. No biggie.

For the main course: Sweet and Sour Chicken skewers, Sichuan Beef skewers, and Spicy Shrimp skewers. We had the O’hana teriyaki noodle recipe. The current menu shows stir fry vegetables, but we went with their famous O’hana green bean recipe. It’s amazing because duh…bacon.

After dinner we attempted the recently released Dole Whip recipe. I learned pretty quick this is one you have to try a few times to get the consistency right. It was amazing, and tasted just like being poolside at the Polynesian resort, but visually it was a major Pinterest fail:

Whomp whomp… it was still amazing.

After dinner we pulled up the YouTube app on the big screen, searched up Disney World rides, and got the ultimate Fastpass to some of our favorites and some new ones the kids haven’t gotten to try yet — like Rise of the Resistance.

To cap off the night, we watched another recent Disney World release. After closing the parks they posted a great hi-def video production of the Disney World fireworks show. This thing is absolutely stunning in person, but still really cool as a fancy video production. It’s got a great positive message for your kids too, which is something they could all use right about now.

It was a fun night and a great distraction. You should give it a try. Plus as an added bonus for me, it was about a thousand bucks cheaper than doing this day in person… Now that’s some Disney magic!
