PSL WTF: A PSA

The other day was a magical one in the life of a stay at home parent: The first day of school! When the kids get on the bus we all feel a little bit like Andy Dufrene in Shawshank Redemption at that moment he crawls out of the pipe.

The start of school is a major psychological shift for our kids, and apparently it’s also that for some of the parents. Which brings me to this very important Public Service Announcement for you stay at home parents:

IT’S STILL SUMMER.

I mention this because on the first day of school I was in the local supermarket which has a Starbucks in it. There was woman in long yoga pants and a heavy sweatshirt, and I overheard her ask the barista why they hadn’t started offering Pumpkin Spice Latte’s yet.

Woah. Slow your roll there yoga master… Midwestern winter is awful, and we don’t need to be in a hurry to bring it on…

I had a free half hour a couple days this same week, so I went to the pool. It was empty, despite hot temperatures and clear blue skies.

A couple months from now there will be plenty of opportunities for you to enjoy pumpkin spice in literally everything they can cram it into, all while lamenting the fact that the school is on a two hour delay for some miserable freezing rain or snow…..again.

So if you are feeling chilly, you don’t need a hot pumpkin coffee and a sweatshirt. Instead, try rolling down your car window, it’s 80° outside. Better yet, put a couple cold beverages in your cooler and join me down at the community pool. It’s warm, sunny, and there are no kids…. It’s perfect.
